NEWSWEEK has published a leak to a source at the US National Security Council about the content of the recent contact between President Donald Trump and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

It quoted a source in the council, who was present during the call, that the president did not have a strong argument, and his position was weak during his talks with Erdogan.

The source said that Trump did not approve of any Turkish military operation east of the Euphrates, but at the same time did not threaten during the phone call to impose economic sanctions on Ankara if it launched a military attack against Kurdish forces, which is completely contrary to what Trump announced on Twitter.

According to the US source, one of the main issues in Trump's talks with Erdogan concerned about two thousand ISIS prisoners held by Kurdish units in northern Syria.

The president also told his Turkish counterpart that he did not want Washington to have any ties to ISIS prisoners, Newsweek quoted the US source as saying.

According to the magazine, Erdogan told Trump that Turkey would do the job and detain ISIS prisoners.
