Nissan's board of directors is meeting Tuesday, October 8, 2019, to try to agree on the choice of the new CEO of the second largest Japanese automobile group, after having forced, in early September, Hiroto Saikawa to resign for having benefited from irregular bonuses.

With our correspondent in Tokyo, Frédéric Charles

Nissan's slump in sales and profits is pushing its board to speed up the appointment of a new boss at the head of the Japanese group. But the differences remain between representatives of Renault, the largest shareholder of Nissan, and Japanese leaders of the group. The French want a boss capable of straightening Nissan by relying on the forces of the Franco-Japanese alliance . For their part, Nissan's Japanese leaders do not want a deepening of the alliance and prefer a candidate favorable to an internal recovery of Nissan.

Mistrust

Clearly, mistrust remains between Renault and Nissan since the arrest of Carlos Ghosn at the end of 2018. Several leaders of Nissan who played an active role in the financial malpractices accused of the architect of the alliance are still in place. Among them, Hari Nada, the vice president in charge of legal affairs, contributed to the disgrace of Carlos Ghosn. But he is caught, in turn, by accusations that he received undue money like Hiroto Saikawa, the successor of Carlos Ghosn at the head of Nissan, forced to resign last month.

turbulence

The turbulence caused by the fall of Carlos Ghosn in the very heart of Nissan remain. And disrupt the selection of a new CEO.
