François Hollande will publish on October 23 a short book entitled "Responding to the Democratic Crisis", a reflection on the institutions of the Fifth Republic, the "ambiguities and contradictions of our Constitution", announced Tuesday Fayard and Terra Nova, which 'edit.
It is a 126-page interview book with the social-democratic think tank Terra Nova, the publisher told AFP.
"Democracy seems to be in danger in our country: crisis of representation, + yellow vests +, weakening of the elected and intermediate bodies, challenge of the institutions of the Fifth Republic: everything contributes to the questioning of what founded the relationship between citizens and power, "says the former President of the Republic, quoted by the statement.
"I wanted to put my experience as President of the Republic in the service of this reflection, having myself been able to note the ambiguities and contradictions of our Constitution," he adds. According to Mr. Holland, "it tries more and more badly to combine the appearances of a parliamentary regime with the concentration of the presidential power that amplifies the five-year period".
"Everything goes back to the head of state, whereas, contrary to the received idea, he does not decide everything, and should be concerned only with the essential," he says.
With the help of his previous book, "The Lessons of Power" (Stock, 2018), the former head of state had traveled for book signings in many cities, which had started speculation, even in the ranks socialists, on his eventual return to politics.
Since early September, Francois Hollande has entrusted his "esteem" for Bernard Cazeneuve, his entourage also confident that he was "satisfied" that his former Prime Minister "reinvest in politics and come in support of the left."
