It is profits from the municipal companies Eskilstuna energy and environment and the real estate company Kfast that will generate money for the welfare initiatives.

"It is important to know that the dividend will not be taken from raising rents and rates," says Jimmy Jansson (S), chairman of the municipal council in Eskilstuna.

Equipment and camera surveillance

The majority will, among other things, spend the money on strengthening the financial buffer, setting up camera surveillance and also renovating premises.

- We then talk about schools and sports venues, toilets and changing rooms where we know that young people stay for a whole day because the toilets are fresh, says Jimmy Jansson (S).

The money comes mainly from the sale of 600 homes from the municipal real estate company. Sales have previously been criticized by the Left Party's group leader in Eskilstuna.

"What you have seen every time the public utility is sold is that buyers raise rents," said Maria Chergui (V).

Could you have received the money from something other than the housing sale?

- It is very difficult to see how it would have gone. Then we would have had to shock the tax or something like that but it hits low and middle income earners directly, says Jimmy Jansson (S).
