The French rider Julian Alaphilippe, winner of Milan-San Remo and long wearer of the yellow jersey on the last Tour de France, has decided to put an end to his season, said his team Deceuninck Tuesday.

"I am very sad to announce that I will not run Milan-Turin or the Tour of Lombardy this week and that my incredible 2019 season will end," said the world number two in a statement posted on the training website. Belgian.

The World Cycling Championships, on September 29, will therefore remain the last event played by "Alaf" this season.

2019 was the year of the explosion for the 27-year-old runner-up, winner at San Remo in March - his first Monument -, the Walloon Flèche at the end of April and two stages of the Tour de France in July.

On the Great Loop, the French wore the leader's tunic for fourteen days.

Another rider in sight this season at Deceuninck, Belgium's Remco Evenepoel played and won Monday his last race of the season, the criterium of Oostrozobeke, in the west of Belgium.

"The Olympic Games and the World Championships will be my two big goals in 2020," said the 19-year-old Belgian.

The winner of the Clasica San Sebastian, silver medalist in the individual time trial of the World Cup, however, excluded to participate in the Tour de France next year.
