In a joint letter to the Sea and Water Authority, it is pointed out that the fisheries are at risk of being knocked out and that there are obvious signs of an imbalance in the Baltic Sea. The letter is a reaction to the authority's report on large-scale fishing on the high seas and information that the fishery for feeding purposes to a large extent misrepresents sharp herring as herring.

- Error reporting can result in too high levels being set on the herring quotas. The professional fishermen on the south coast have argued that the herring stocks have dropped significantly in the southern Baltic Sea, says Kalmar County county fisheries consultant Tobias Borger.

According to the governors, a large-scale fishing of herring affects the stocks of both herring and cod. In addition, the supply opportunities for small-scale coastal fishing are at risk of being damaged.
