“Two crimes are related to the activities of two different forest exporters, operating in the Taishet district of the Irkutsk region. Criminal proceedings have been instituted on the fact of evading the obligation to repatriate (return) the money owed for the exported forest to Afghanistan, ”the statement said.

According to customs, both companies entered into contracts for the supply of softwood lumber to Afghanistan, but the leaders and employees of one of the firms did nothing to get more than $ 2.7 million from the sale of timber to Russia. Another company did not return more than $ 958 thousand to the country.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General of Russia Yuri Chaika said that in the first half of 2020, large-scale inspections in the field of forest management are planned throughout the country.

On June 6, in Moscow, FSB officers detained Sergey Sheverda, Minister of the Irkutsk Region Forestry Complex. He is suspected of abuse of power. According to law enforcement agencies, he authorized illegal logging on an area of ​​120 hectares in the Tukolon nature reserve. The amount of damage is estimated at 748 million rubles.
