The investigation continues after the killing of the police headquarters last Thursday, which killed four police officers, killed by one of their intelligence colleagues, who was shot dead. On Sunday night, after three days in police custody, the killer's wife was released. No charges were brought against this 38-year-old mother. If the motive of the assailant is still not clearly established, its radicalization, however, is no longer in doubt. What to wonder about why neither his colleagues, nor his superiors, have detected it.
In 16 years of career in Parisian intelligence, this administrative agent has never been the subject of a thorough investigation. Not even to obtain his authorization "secret defense", essential to work in the service. This sesame was first issued in July 2003, then renewed in 2008 and last time in 2013. On what basis? An administrative form and a simple consultation of the police files. Nothing more.

If this kind of control can seem very light, it is perfectly legal and responds to the provisions of the texts in force, for him, as for a large part of the police officers who are currently stationed at the Directorate of Intelligence Paris.
Late radicalization?
However, the rules were significantly tightened two years ago by the new director, from the DGSI. Result: the attacker should have been subject to further checks from 2020, for the renewal of his authorization "secret defense".
But even if this type of investigation had taken place the last time, in 2013, the police probably would not have found much: at the time, the deaf computer scientist was not yet married, just converted to Islam for a few years, but without radical practice. And had excellent records of service for ten years.
