Iran is high on the news agenda following the drone attacks against Iran's arch-rival Saudi Arabia recently. Several countries have designated Iran responsible for the attacks, but Iran denies responsibility.

The immensely popular TV series Gando is said to have been watched by 40 million Iranians, half the country's population, and it is also seen as a sign that conservative forces are gaining power in the country right now.

"Unlike all other Iranian series"

SVT's Middle East team is currently in Iran and visited, among others, Tehran residents Hadi Khafaji and Meysa Ataimehr to find out what attracts with Gando.

- It is a very good series with good actors. The topic is interesting, says Hadi Khafaji.

- It is unlike any other Iranian series. That's why we like it, says Meysa Ataimehr.

The series portrays Iranian politicians who believed in entering into agreements with the West as naive. It is the representative of the hard line that guarantees the security of the country.

"Will govern the country in five years"

The series' heroes of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard are a branch of the military with great influence, directly under Iran's highest spiritual and political leader, Ayatolla Ali Khamenei.

Analyst Sayd Laylaz believes that the guard that was stamped by the US in the spring will be more powerful in the future.

- Especially after an American drone fell into the Persian Gulf two, three months ago, they have gained popularity. They are the most powerful organization in Iran. As I see it, they will rule the country within five years, says Sayd Laylaz.
