Berlin (dpa) - Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer has defended his plan to absorb a quarter of the rescued on the central Mediterranean route from distress. For almost one and a half years, Germany has been taking in refugees from every boat that lands in front of Italy or Malta, he told Welt am Sonntag. That is no secret and there have been no debates so far. But they do not want to support the inhumane business of smugglers. Should the emergency mechanism set false incentives or be misused, Germany could terminate it at any time.
