The alarm call came in to the police at 02 at night. Police found the first victim, who had a head injury, in lower Manhattan and then another four nearby. The assaults are believed to have occurred in at least three different locations.
A 24-year-old, who is also believed to be homeless, has been arrested for the killing.
The police have not yet determined the identity of the men, but they are believed to have no fixed address.
