Saturday, October 5, portraits of Jacques Chirac staked the place of Sainte-Féréole, picturesque village where the former president comes from. About two hundred people, mainly residents, came to pay him a last tribute in the presence of his family and François Hollande, who was his political opponent in Corrèze.

"I can only say thank you in the name of my father and my mother who is with us from Paris," said the daughter of Jacques Chirac, Claude Chirac, moved to tears.

The family of the former president had insisted that this last tribute takes place in Corrèze, land of the family roots of the former president and cradle of his political career.

"Jacques Chirac was built here," said Henri Soulier, the village mayor. Elected city councilor in 1965 in Sainte-Féréole, Jacques Chirac became, two years later, a member of the Corrèze and will be re-elected without interruption until his accession to the Élysée in 1995.

"Place Jacques-Chirac"

In his speech, the apostle proposed, with the family's agreement, that this place, which bears the name of a resistant, be renamed "Place Jacques-Chirac" in memory of the illustrious Corrézien, who died September 26 at the age of 86 years.

A little earlier, the family, the mayor, the chairman of the departmental council Pascal Coste, the senator Daniel Chassaing and the prefect Frederic Veau had gone to the communal cemetery on the tomb of the parents of Jacques Chirac where a wreath was deposited.
