On October 5, Pope Francis created thirteen new cardinals in St. Peter's Basilica. Ten of them, less than 80 years old, become voters in the Sacred College at the next conclave. Many delegations from the countries of these new cardinals had made the trip, including that of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with the presence of President Felix Tshisekedi.

Under the cupola of St. Peter's Basilica, thirteen have received the cardinal's barrette from the hands of Pope Francis. All embody the Church wanted by Pope Francis, serving the poor and committed to social justice.

Among the great figures of this consistory, the Archbishop of Kinshasa, Bishop Fridolin Ambongo , a 59 year old Capuchin monk, craftsman of the democratic transition in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), whose appointment rewards the work of the Congolese episcopate and a personal commitment.

In his # homily, @Pontifex asked the 13 new cardinals to testify to the mercy they have received from God, putting their "compassionate heart" in the service of their neighbor. #Consistory https://t.co/rOrLFKkuld

Tireless wrestler of democracy

Very present and visible in the Vatican, the Congolese delegation has more than 200 people. It is composed of religious, some of whom wear a colorful shirt with the effigy of the new cardinal but also many men and women politicians of all stripes, first and foremost President Felix Tshisekedi.
