2018 - The Nobel Peace Prize goes to the Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege and the Yezidi-Iraqi human rights activist Nadia Murad. Both are committed to victims of rape in war zones.

2009 - The road to complete nationalization of the real estate bank Hypo Real Estate (HRE) is free. With its own majority vote, the federal government decides at an extraordinary general meeting to pay the last free shareholders and thus the first forced nationalization of a bank in Germany since the Second World War. Nationalization is completed on 13th October.

2004 - The Vatican deprives the church-critical Regensburg theology professor and liturgical scientist August Jilek of the teaching authority.
