Malaysia's media reported that the former Malaysian king, Sultan Mohammed V, was divorced by a former Russian beauty queen, Oksana Vovodina, a sudden and clear end to the stormy romance that angered Malaysia.

Local newspapers reported that the divorce was registered on July 1, adding that their sources said the couple's divorce certificate, which was transmitted via social media, was genuine.

A source close to the sultan said the former beauty queen had demanded a house in London after she had asked for one in the Russian capital, although the allegations had not been verified with her. Oksana is also said to have asked for 24,000 pounds a month for her son, Leon. According to reports, the former king, who was educated in Britain, asked a crowd of curious journalists: "Who do you think I am? Bill Gates?".

The sultan had abdicated the throne earlier this year, marrying the star of a reality TV show in Russia.

Since he stepped down as king on January 6, the sultan only appeared several times, becoming the first king in the country's history to abdicate. He ascended the throne in December 2016, and was supposed to serve for five years under a cyclical monarchy common to the country's nine royal families.
