On Friday, the 9th edition of the Malmö Arab Film Festival started. And it has led to several new collaborations across national borders.

- The film festival has become a meeting place for everyone living in Skåne and not just for those who speak Arabic, says founder Mohamad Keblawi.

Malmö Arab Film Festival has succeeded in creating collaboration between Sweden and the Arab countries and an example of this is the composer Ronald Heu from Malmö who has made music into two Arab films.

- I was invited as a composer to meet filmmakers. Then I got a view of a movie that wasn't finished called Tiny Souls. I met the director for the movie and then I got involved with it. It took two and a half years for the film to be finished, says Ronald Heu.

Complimented in Jordan

The movie Tiny Souls is about three young Syrian siblings living in a refugee camp in Jordan. It was the story that caught Ronald's interest in making the music for the film.

- I don't want to pretend that I know Arabic music, but I got some mood and spices from the Arabic music. I got a compliment when I was in Jordan, a man was very surprised at how a Swede could capture the Arab soul in the music. It was incredibly nice to hear, says Ronald Heu.

Malmö Arab Film Festival runs from October 4-8. there will be 47 films from 27 different countries at the Panora and Royal cinemas.
