- The start has been very good with record catches, says Ingar Lerdin, professional fisherman from Seskarö.

So far, 220 tonnes have been picked up by the 35 boats that are licensed to operate trawling in the Gulf of Bothnia. The ceiling set by the Sea and Water Authority is at a maximum of 700 tonnes. This is the first time a roof has been introduced and therefore the fishermen have now chosen to take a break:

- We want to spread the fishing during the three weeks that remain, had we not stopped now, we would have finished next week, Ingvar explains.

Criticizes the researchers SLU

The commercial fishermen are critical of the researchers at SLU, who say they have erroneous calculation models on how much sickle there really is:

- Our organization has great knowledge about the size of the stock, but the researchers do not listen to us at all but rely on data calculations, according to Ingvar Lerdin, who is also chairman of Norrbotten's Coastal Fisheries Producer Organization.

Although this year's catch has been good, the catch ceiling has consequences in the form of less access to the coveted Kalixlöjrommen, where the price has not yet been set.
