“I’m sure that the US Senate will ratify the protocol on your accession this fall so that we can officially include you in the NATO team,” said Pompeo in his speech, broadcast on Twitter by Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia Zoran Zaev.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Defense of Northern Macedonia, Radmila Shekerinsky, admitted that the process of ratification of the protocol on the country's accession to NATO could be delayed against the background of the current situation in Europe. She recalled that this process took Montenegro for more than 18 months, while the authorities of Northern Macedonia set a goal to formalize NATO membership within ten months.

In June, the EU Council postponed negotiations on accession of Northern Macedonia and Albania to the EU due to the lack of support for this decision from a number of countries.

Earlier, the leader of Northern Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, called accession to NATO and the EU the country's priorities.
