This month, politicians in Helsingborg will decide on the forms of the referendum - yes or no to sell Öresundskraft, the city's own energy company.

It is about when the referendum is to be held, where the polling stations are to be located, the voting count and other things. In total, the election is estimated to cost the municipality SEK 5 million.

Text on the roll

It is Peter Danielsson (M), chairman of the local council, who is behind the decisions made by the municipal council first and then the council.

He has also sent suggestions for a text to be printed on the ballot papers (see below). That text has caused hot debate, both within politics and at the People's Initiative for a referendum.

Bert Alfson is one of the initiators of the name gathering that called for a referendum on the future of Öresundkraft. He does not say the words:

- This is so sick that I can't find words. If it becomes yes to the text in politics, I appeal directly, he says.

Opinions that fall apart

The Environment Party and the Social Democrats are also critical. They do not think that there is any text at all on the ballot paper besides the options yes to sell or no to sell.

"The ballot box should not be kidnapped like this," says municipal councilor Marcus Friberg (MP).

- A rough departure from democracy, thinks the municipal council Jan Björklund (S).

Peter Danielsson thinks it is a factual proposal that is needed for the Helsingborg citizens to know what the referendum is about. He is supported by the Swedish Democrats' municipal council Michael Rosenberg.

- A nice proposal, he says.
