It was during the night of July 23 last summer that two masked men entered Stenpiren's travel center and carried out the 100 kg heavy glass sculpture representing a ship, which the newspaper GT was the first to report.

- We take this very seriously, that you go in and steal a piece of art that has been so enriching for our travelers. It is very boring, says Kristian Lans, Press Spokesman at West Traffic.

"Don't understand how thieves think"

The artist behind the work is one of Sweden's foremost glass artists Bertil Vallien, who was shocked when he heard the news about the art cup.

- It's awful, I don't get it. I do not understand how the thieves think because it is a very special work that is probably very difficult to sell on, he says

The artwork has been stolen earlier

And this is not the first time Precious Cargo has been stolen. In 2014, the glass ship stood outside the Gothenburg Opera, and after that Bertil Vallien created a new version of the work. The new work was placed in Stenpiren's travel center to make it safer to have it indoors.

- I also made a special device so that the right tools would be required to get rid of the ship. Those who did this must have planned it and brought the tools with them, says Bertil Vallien.
