World No.2 Rafael Nadal, who is aiming for the top of the ATP chain at the end of the season, has dropped the Shanghai Masters 1000, which starts Sunday, due to a left wrist injury, have announced the organizers Friday citing the player.

"As you probably all know, I suffered from left wrist inflammation at the Laver Cup and I did not have time to recover or train to be ready for this great tournament. to be back for the 2020 edition, "wrote Nadal to the Shanghai organizers.

The Spaniard, winner of the US Open in August, has not played in competition since, but he played at the side including Roger Federer the Laver Cup in September in Geneva, an exhibition tournament between a European team to a team from the rest of the world. He had forfeited the last day because of this inflammation of the left wrist.

Nadal, who did not have ATP points to defend this year at the Shanghai Masters 1000 where he had not come last year, can overthrow Novak Djokovic from his world throne at the end of the season. The Serb, who is 640 points ahead of Nadal at ATP, must defend the 1,000 points of his title in China.
