Zakharova commented on criticism and protests in Ukraine in connection with the approval by Kiev of the Steinmeier formula for the Donbass.
“In a democratic state, everyone has the right to his own point of view and to the forms of its implementation or declaration, if it’s all within the legal framework, why not some part of the population express their support or their non-support to one or another decision of the authorities, steps of the authorities”, - she said.
She noted that representatives of the Norman-format countries unequivocally supported the outcome of the work of the contact group in the Donbass, in particular, according to the Steinmeier formula.
“I was surprised and even touched that forces that associate themselves with former President Poroshenko opposed this one way or another and generally against the movement towards the implementation of the Minsk agreements. This is touching, ”said the representative of the Foreign Ministry.
Zakharova added that the Minsk agreements were signed by Poroshenko and that the team of the ex-president of Ukraine was accused of “losing ground of the establishment”. According to her, Poroshenko for several years "argued that, by signing the Minsk agreement, he did not give up his position."
“Now he is engaged in exactly what he has resisted all these years,” Zakharova added.
Earlier, Poroshenko's party demanded that the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine be convened due to the approval of the Steinmeier formula.
