At 18 o'clock when the bakery in western Gothenburg closes, Oumnia Khaloufi is in place with large plastic bags filled with today's leftover bread.

- There are usually about 20 loaves and about 50 slices, says shopkeeper Philippa Ottenfalk, who gathers and leaves over the bread and wheat balls.

Rescued two pallets with brie cheese

Co-rescuer Oumnia Khaloufi is a student, but they have been involved as a volunteer and "co-rescuer" in the Solikyl association.

- We want to reduce food waste and create a sharing culture around the food abundance that exists, says Bruno Chies, president of Solikyl.

The association today has an agreement to pick up food with five grocery stores and seven restaurants and bakeries in Gothenburg.

"Sometime we saved two pallets of brie cheese, another 400 kilos of flour," Bruno Chies says.

All for pick up in the coolers

Through a reservation system, volunteers can see for themselves when and where to find food. They then drive the food to so-called solidarity refrigerators that are located in about ten locations in Gothenburg. It is free for anyone to pick up food - absolutely free.

-There are all kinds of fathers, retirees, families with children. They really appreciate it, says Oumnia Khaloufi, who is one of 30 active food savers in the Solikyl association.
