In an interview with SVT, SAS flight manager Rolf Bakken rebutted that people in the company would have experienced punishments after using the "Unfit for flight" safety valve.

"It is quite obvious that we do not punish anyone," he said.

But union representatives for cabin crew see problems with how the rule is applied.

Viktoria Svensson, chair of the Swedish cabin union SCCA, confirms for SVT that there were members who had problems linked to unfit reports.

“We hope that together with our employer we will work out the problems. Good working conditions and safe working conditions are associated with safety on board and are therefore in everyone's interest, ”she writes to SVT.

Problem in Oslo

Pål Røine, chairman of the Norwegian Cabin Association, tells SVT:

- In general, we have good security work. And I have confidence in Rolf (Bakken), but in this case I think unfortunately he is not quite clear what is going on down in SAS. He is a director of a fairly large company. At the base here in Oslo, we have problems with this.

His colleague, Martinus Røkkum, chairman of the SAS Norway cabin association, also confirms that there are lively discussions around the security issue:

- We feel that there is a great deal of uncertainty about how and when to use it. There are cases where you would rather take sick leave than register unfit. It is easier and there will be no consequential issues, he says.

Not covered by the rules

But there are also union representatives who share the management's image.

Katarina Johansson, chair of the SAS Academic Association, writes in an email to SVT that "For SAS and my fantastic colleagues, flight safety is always number one!"

Martin Johansson, chairman of the SAS Civil Service Terminal, writes in another e-mail that his members do not think that there is a culture of punishment at SAS.

However, "Unfit for flight" applies only to flying personnel, which is why Martin Johansson's members are not affected by the regulations.

Anders Westman, chairman of the Leaders Group Club at SAS, also writes that he does not recognize at all in the critical descriptions.

How many of your members are covered by the unfit rules?

- None.

So if I ask you about the application of unfit, then you know nothing about it?

- No, I would start talking about it, then it will be rubbish.
