According to a statement issued by the family of Walid Abdel Rahman, who was arrested in Cairo on charges of taking part in anti-Egyptian activities, she received assurances from the Sudanese embassy there that her son was released.

"The Sudanese Foreign Ministry's efforts were successful and the Sudanese student was released. He assured his family and the Sudanese people that he is fine and that he will leave for Sudan on Wednesday," the statement said.

The family said they went to the airport to receive him, but were quickly disappointed that Walid had not arrived, without explanations.

The family demanded that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo inform her of the fact and the whereabouts of the student Walid and enable her to speak to him directly, as she was unable to speak to him throughout his detention so far.

According to information obtained by Al-Jazeera Net, the Egyptian authorities decided to remove Walid Abdel Rahman from the Egyptian territory permanently, and notified the embassy officials of its decision, and asked them to receive him at Cairo airport after preparing a travel document and a ticket, and that officials at the consulate went there with the documents and waited for long hours Without receiving Walid, and without any response from the Egyptian authorities.

Social media outlets in Sudan abuzz with the actions of officials at the Sudanese embassy in Cairo, while others considered it a new attempt to embarrass the newly created government, and that those holding the file are supporters of the isolated regime.
