October 03, 2019 "In my experience with Sea Watch we experienced alienating situations, we had to tie up the bodies so that they didn't sink around us. I saw people left alone in the sea or brought back to Libya from which they had just escaped. But no experience was as heavy as Sea Watch 3 with migrants aboard for days that nobody wanted ". This was stated by Carola Rackete, captain of the Sea Watch 3 at the hearing of the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (Libe).

"It was a shame to see this attitude from Europe, the cradle of human rights. Despite the opinion of the people, a whole series of institutions raised a wall. I was attacked, I found myself alone", added the commander of the Sea Watch. "The case of Sea Watch once again pointed out that the Member States are not willing to face modern times - said Rackete - I received a series of attentions only after having entered the port, not as an act of provocation, but for reasons of need ".
