The president of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno , decreed on Thursday the state of exception in the country, when carriers have blocked streets and roads in several areas of the country in rejection of the increase in the price of fuels.

"In order to safeguard citizen security and avoid chaos , I have established the state of exception at the national level," said Moreno from the Carondelet Palace, the seat of the Executive.

The announcement was made at a time when demonstrations, especially in the Ecuadorian capital, are getting worse, against the elimination of fuel subsidies, agreed in a credit program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
