The US president, Donald Trump, asked China on Thursday to investigate the family of former vice president and Democratic presidential candidate , Joe Biden, for his business in that country, amid the controversy generated by pressures similar to his counterpart Ukraine.

" China should begin an investigation into the Biden . What happened in China is as bad as what happened in Ukraine," Trump told reporters at the White House before leaving for Florida for a campaigning event.

Asked if he had asked the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, to help investigate the Biden, Trump said he "certainly" could do it. "I have not done it, but it is certainly something we can start thinking about," the president insisted.

Trump made these comments after the president of the lower house, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, announced last week an investigation to initiate a possible political trial against Trump following a telephone conversation that the president held on July 25 with the president Ukrainian, Vladimir Zelenski, in which he asked to investigate Biden and his son Hunter for alleged corruption in that country.

Far from recanting that idea, Trump also recommended Zelenski today to initiate research on the behavior of the Biden. "I would say: President Zelenski, if I were you, I would begin an investigation into the Biden," he repeated.

In an interview in July with The New Yorker magazine , Hunter Biden defended himself against accusations of having accepted bribes from a Chinese tycoon.

According to that media, the former vice president's son offered Chinese businessman Ye Jianming to "use his contacts" when he was on the board of the World Food Program in the US to help identify investment opportunities for his company.

Hunter Biden explained that Ye sent him a 2.8-carat diamond (valued at about $ 80,000), which the son of the former vice president ruled out was a bribe and gave the pedrusco to his partners. "I knew it was not a good idea to keep it," he said then.

The July call between Trump and Zelenski caused an intelligence official to file an internal complaint in August, which after a political struggle between Congress and the government was made public last week.

According to that complaint revealed by the Intelligence Committee of the Lower House, the spy complained "that the president of the United States is using the power of his office to request interference from a foreign country in the 2020 US elections, " reason for which an investigation has been initiated against him.
