Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has reacted sharply to Dortmund president Hans-Joachim Watske, who scoffed at his former player for missing the Champions League.

Aubameyang moved from Dortmund to Arsenal in early 2018 in a deal estimated at 63 million euros.

The president of Dortmund sent a cynical message to Aubameyang for his absence from the Champions League by joining the English club.

"Aubameyang feels good when he looks at his bank balance, but unfortunately he will be on television on Wednesday for the Champions League," Watske said in televised remarks.

The German official was referring to Obamyang's physical benefit from the transfer to Arsenal in return for the results of the team, who miss the second consecutive season of the Champions League.
