The WTO allows the United States to impose sanctions on 7.5 billion European imports. And this in retaliation for the aid granted by the EU to Airbus. The decision comes at a time when Donald Trump threatens to open a new trade war against Europe.

The United States will be able to impose these tariffs on $ 7.5 billion worth of European goods and services by the end of October. In addition to Airbus aircraft and equipment, Washington plans to overtax cheeses, wines, spirits, but also fruits and clothing from Europe.

A record amount decided by the WTO to sanction illegal subsidies granted to Airbus by several EU countries. But the United States has also been condemned for the same reasons, namely subsidies to their national aircraft manufacturer Boeing.

Within six months the WTO must announce the amount of customs duties that the EU can impose in turn in retaliation on US imports. And it could also be expensive in the United States.

In particular, Boeing could be denied access to the European market. The WTO decision " is a big win " for the United States, responded Donald Trump. This decision authorizes the US president to launch the new trade war that threatens to open since this summer against Europe and especially against France.

Washington, which was calling for tougher sanctions, ignored the EU's latest calls for talks .
