Quentin Bigot unlocked the French medal count at the Doha World Championships (Qatar) on Wednesday with silver in the hammer throw, with a throw at 78.19 meters, his best performance of the season.

The 26-year-old Frenchman, fourth of the Worlds in 2017 in London, beat Hungary's Bence Halasz by a small centimeter (78.18) but could not cope with the ogre of the discipline, the Polish Pawel Fajdek , who won her fourth consecutive world title with a throw at 80.50 meters.

The other favorite, Poland's Wojciech Nowicki, last year's European champion, failed in fourth place at 77.69 meters.

Bigot unblocks the medal count for France, assured not to return empty-handed from Qatar, after serial disillusions among the chances of medals with the failures of Yohann Diniz and Pierre-Ambroise Bosse, and the premature eliminations of Jimmy Vicaut or again from Rénelle Lamote.

Bigot had experienced from 2014 to 2016 a halt, suspended for doping after a positive test to anabolic.

At the European Championships in Berlin in 2018, Lorrain had a poor performance and failed to qualify for the final of the competition.
