A further two notable judgments have recently been postponed by Eskilstuna District Court. The verdict on the Facebook group "Stand up for Sweden" was postponed three times before it was announced last summer and the verdict on the murder on Galléengatan was postponed four times.

- It creates a concern for those directly involved, especially the appealing but also the target owner. It can feel alarming that you do not keep the message you have left, says Sven-Erik Alhem, former prosecutor.

High workload

According to Lars Magnusson, counsel at Eskilstuna District Court, the deferred judgments are due to high workload.

- It is because we do not have time, we have a lot to do and too few people. We are not complete and therefore priorities must sometimes be set among all these goals, he says.

Can be notified

If convictions are postponed repeatedly it can be reported to the Ombudsman, JO. In some cases, such reports have led to the State Board of Responsibility deciding on disciplinary sanctions. This has not happened in Eskilstuna in recent years.

- If I were JO, I would immediately investigate whether there have been several decisions that the notice of a judgment has been postponed. Then there may be grounds for JO to review it, says Sven-Erik Alhem.
