According to an official statement, 25 Malian soldiers were killed in clashes on Sunday night, which continued on Tuesday between the Malian army and suspected jihadists. The latter briefly occupied positions of the Malian army. 60 other Malian soldiers reportedly missing.

The intense fighting over two days in the town of Boulkessi has not yet revealed all their secrets. For the moment, the Malian government is the only official communicator.

According to his spokesman, the Malian battalion, under the command of the G5 joint force, lost 25 men, according to a provisional report. Some 60 other Malian soldiers are missing for the time being, and the army has suffered heavy losses in equipment.

On the side of the alleged jihadists, the balance would amount to 15 deaths, according to the communication minister Yaya Sangare, adding that the regular army has managed on Tuesday to resume and maintain its positions.

This detail is important. He confirms that the attackers did, at one point, take control of the positions of the forces under command G5. Then, to face the enemy, the partners of Mali on the ground, that is to say the French of Operation Barkhane and the UN envoys, militarily intervened in Boulkessi.
