A large number of wolves disappear every year due to illegal hunting, but SVT's survey shows that few people are sentenced. The Swedish Hunters 'Association chairman Torbjörn Larsson says that it is the politicians' decision that forces a "Robin Hood mentality" of people living in areas with many wolves.

- The worst thing for us is illegal hunting. Police and law enforcement agencies have to deal with it, but they have not been able to.

Prosecutor Åse Schoultz, who has led several investigations about hunting wolves on wolves, says that the illegal hunting is widespread and that the number of blacks is high. She believes that there is a culture of silence around the crimes and that landowners and hunter-gatherers must take clearer distances from those who are poachers.

- They push the responsibility of our politicians instead of looking at the perpetrators who are out and doing the rough and organized hunt.

- I feel that the hunter association speaks with the split tongue when you distance yourself from illegal hunting and at the same time understand that it is conducted, says Åse Schoultz.

"Pure fantasies"

This description of the situation is not appreciated by the chairman of the Swedish Hunters' Association.

- It is regrettable that a prosecutor accuses us. I called friends today who live in these villages and they have no control over who does this, there is no talk about it and they have no knowledge. It is pure imagination that we should have a heavy tongue.

- I think the Prosecutor's Office should get more resources so that it gets expertise in the subject, says Torbjörn Larsson.
