Moscow has warned of continued tension because all initiatives to resolve the nuclear deal with Iran are insufficient, ahead of a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian Hassan Rouhani.

The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday that all initiatives to resolve the crisis of the nuclear agreement with Iran does not produce the desired results, and that all the situation is still tense, as he put it.

Peskov said in a press statement that the new 60-day deadline given by Tehran before reducing its obligations under the nuclear agreement, is past, noting that this raises concern.

Peskov said that the Russian and Iranian presidents will discuss this crisis as well as tension in the Strait of Hormuz, during their talks today in the Armenian capital of Yerevan, on the sidelines of the summit of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Rouhani met with his Armenian counterpart Armen Sarkissian and Prime Minister Nicole Pashinian on Tuesday, and discussed cooperation in the field of energy, tourism and transport between the two countries.

Missed opportunity
On the other hand, the newspaper "New Yorker" American yesterday that Rowhani rejected an attempt by his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to hold a meeting or direct contact involving Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, last Tuesday evening.

The newspaper quoted Macron as saying earlier that the lack of a meeting between Trump and Rouhani is a missed opportunity, because the Iranian president will return only months to New York, and Trump will not travel to Tehran, he said.

The failed Macron bid followed Trump's speech at the United Nations that Iran was "shedding blood" and held Tehran directly responsible for the attack on Saudi Aramco.

"You must stand on the edge of the pool and jump inside it at the same time," British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Rouhani, referring to the need for a meeting between Presidents Rouhani and Trump.
