01 October 2019The former leader of the Austrian ultra-right Fpö, Heinz Christian Strache, has suspended himself from the party, which he led for 14 years, and announced his exit from Austrian politics. The resignation comes after the political elections that saw the FPö collapse, down to 17.3%, almost 9% less than the 2017 elections.

The former vice-chancellor has called a press conference in the morning, playing so early to avoid his expulsion from the party that was now imminent after the Ibizagate scandal that brought down the previous government based on the coalition between Sebastian Kurz (Övp), and precisely the FPö.

Strache rejected all the accusations and stressed that he is not aiming for the split of the FPÖ, a party currently controlled by Norbert Hofer.
