The Algerian capital witnessed a student march demanding the removal of all symbols of the former regime and the release of detainees and ensuring the right atmosphere before the organization of the presidential elections, while the army chief of staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Qaid Saleh confirmed the elections on time.

Thousands of students took part in Tuesday's 32nd march since the popular movement began in February, starting from Martyrs' Square and passing through El Arabi Ben Mehidi Street to Mauritania Square after police prevented them from reaching the Central Post Square.

The participants chanted slogans demanding the release of those detained because of the movement, the removal of all those remaining from the regime of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, and refused to "force the street to accept the presidential elections amid undemocratic conditions."

Despite this rejection, the PA is proceeding with the preparation of the elections scheduled for December 12, where the army chief of staff reiterated that they would "be held on time" and that "those who want to measure their true value should come to the people and run. Nonsense and has no value at all, "according to a statement published by the Ministry of Defense website on Monday.

"We will take the necessary measures at the appropriate time in the name of the law," said Kaid Saleh.

Qaid Saleh stressed that "the military does not speak out of the blue, but speaks about the data of the involvement of the gang."
