Pablo Martínez , 31, faces first-degree murder charges for pouring very hot water into his 6-year-old son's throat claiming that the child was possessed by a "demon" and that was the way to exorcise him, they report Tuesday national media.

Martínez, of Tucson, Arizona (USA), is accused of killing the child "with malice and premeditation" , after holding the child under the boiling water tap for 5 to 10 minutes.

According to court documents released on Monday, agents from the Yaqui Easter Police Department were called to a house in an indigenous reservation in Arizona , where they found the child already breathing without lying on a bed.

During the interrogation, the father said that last week he realized that the boy had "a demon inside him . "

While giving the boy a bath on Thursday night, he told investigators, "he saw something bad" inside the boy, he knew he had to "cast the devil" and, to achieve this, he held it under the tap of burning water.

The mother, Romelia Martínez, told investigators that she heard a gurgle coming from the bathroom of the house, but when she tried to enter the door it was closed, so she proceeded to call the emergency number 911.

The wife indicated that when she finally managed to open the door she saw Pablo pouring cold water on the boy and trying to practice cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

In the hospital to which they sent the minor, where his death was certified, it was determined that the child had burns on more than 15% of the body , including the forearms, elbows and head, according to court documents.

When the agents first asked Martínez about what happened, he told them that they would not understand it because they did not have "the right mentality or belief . "
