30 September 2019In August the unemployment rate in Italy fell to 9.5%, down 0.3% on a monthly basis. This is the minimum since November 2011.

This was revealed by Istat - the National Institute of Statistics - which also highlights the decline in youth unemployment, that is the age group between 15 and 24, down by 1.3 percentage points on a monthly basis, reaching the 27, 1%. Even here we talk about the lowest rate since August 2010.

Employees on a monthly basis increase in the over-fifties (+ 34 thousand), while they fall in other age classes, particularly in the youth bracket (-23 thousand). The growth of employed employees concerns above all permanent staff (+ 27 thousand), while the number of independents fell (-33 thousand).

Fall unemployed but the inactive go up
The unemployed - those who are looking for employment - in August are down, down 3.4% (or - 87,000 people). After five months of stability, however, the inactive population is growing - a color that I do not work but not even looking for employment -, especially in the age group between 15 and 64, increasing by about 73 thousand units from the previous month, that of July.

It is also worth noting the increase in those employed among the female population (+3 thousand) compared to a decline for men (-4 thousand).

Meanwhile in Germany the unemployment rate in September remained unchanged at 5%, compared to the previous month, below the record low of 4.9% reached this year in recent months.
