In Northern Ireland, Christian church leaders in Ireland are calling for the return of the decentralized government. Since January 2017, the Northern Ireland Parliament no longer sits, for lack of a coalition agreement between the government parties. In the absence of an executive, London intends to legalize abortion in the Irish nation. Religious leaders are mobilizing to prevent the advent of the law.

It is with deep concern that the heads of five churches in Ireland issued a joint statement on Monday, hoping to prevent a "barbaric law". They ask the faithful to put pressure on their local elected officials to reinvest the Northern Irish Parliament in Belfast and prevent the legalization of abortion.

Abortion is legal in the rest of the UK, but Belfast has consistently refused to ratify the law, particularly because of the influence of various Christian churches. Moreover, only one party, the Greens, has clearly spoken in favor of legalization.

Religious leaders deny that the Westminster deputies impose this decision, "without consulting the North-Irish" and with all the risks it would imply: forced abortions, eugenics, danger for women.

In their statement, the five Christian leaders invite members to take risks and accept compromises ... A weekend of prayers will be organized next week, for the "protection of unborn children and for women with difficult pregnancies".
