The regeneration of politics and the rationalization of the Administration are two of the foundational flags of Citizens. However, the entry of the party of Albert Rivera in several regional governments is being accompanied by a large increase in the number of senior regional positions with respect to the previous legislature.

This has been the case in the Government of Murcia and, to a lesser extent, also in the Junta de Castilla y León , two communities where the PP used to rule alone and in which coalition executives between popular and oranges are now rehearsed for the first time.

The new Murcian Government that was established in August maintains the same number of councils as the previous cabinet: 10. Of these, five are managed by the PP, four Citizens and the tenth -Tourism, Youth and Sports-, is divided between both parties under the command of a popular counselor.

The number of directors remains, but in the structure of the Government the high positions multiply. At the moment, they already amount to 125 compared to the previous 103, as stated in the executive structure decrees and in the Regional Transparency Portal. In addition, the Executive presiding Fernando López Miras has confirmed these figures to EL MUNDO.

Salaries between 58,000 and 56,000 euros

The structure decrees have created some newly created posts, such as the regional secretaries, which would charge 58,499 euros each year. From the center-right Government they point out that these new positions of regional secretaries are not going to be filled, even if they have been created in the organization chart of two councils.

The total annual expenditure on salaries of all the high positions that are going to be filled will increase by 26.4%. Or what is the same: Murcians will pay 1.18 million euros more per year in salaries of high positions, going from 4.5 million euros to 5.68 million annually.

One of the most spectacular increases is that of CEOs, which go from 33 to 44 (33% more). Each of them charges 56,248 euros per year. The deputy general managers, meanwhile, go from 36 to 45. These, who are civil servants, charge 58,000 euros.

Some councils double or triple their previous number of CEOs. This is the case of Water, Agriculture and Livestock, which goes from three general directors to seven; or Transparency and Participation, which goes from one to three general directors.

Official sources of the regional government explained to this newspaper that the increase in the number of senior officials in the Region of Murcia is "acceptable." And even "necessary" for "the development of the policies we have agreed" between the two parties.

"Efficiency criteria"

As explained by the Murcia Executive, "the reorganization has been done with criteria of efficiency and administrative agility in order to meet in the most effective way with the objectives set for this term."

The same sources added that both the deputy directors and those assimilated to deputy directors are civil servants, "so the number of hired people does not increase." What does increase is your compensation. In addition, by leaving these officials their original vacancies, the regional government may temporarily fill them with interim personnel, as is usually done, and so there would be new hires.

Sources of the Murcia PSOE consulted by this newspaper strongly criticized these figures. And they blamed that the PP and Citizens have had to multiply the structure of some councils to accommodate "trusted staff and plugged in both formations."
