There are no immediate reports of deaths, injuries or damage. The shock of intensity 6.8 was recorded off the coast of Chile, according to the US geoligical center. It was initially recorded as a jolt of 7.2. The epicenter was located about 66 km from the coastal town of Constitucion, at a depth of 16.5 km.
