Clashes erupted on Sunday (September 29th) in Hong Kong, for the second day in a row, between anti-government protesters and police who used water cannons, tear gas and fired rubber bullets.

Rallies were planned on the island following the fifth anniversary of the "Umbrella Movement" which paralyzed Hong Kong in 2014.

Saturday's protests escalated into clashes and Sunday's clashes were among the most violent seen since the start of a protest movement in June that plunged the territory into an unprecedented political crisis since it was handed back to China. 1997.

Pro and anti-Beijing demonstrations are scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, National Day of the People's Republic of China.

On Sunday, clashes took place in the neighborhoods of Causeway Bay and Wan Chai and in the district of Admiralty, financial and governmental center of Hong Kong.

The anti-riot police, who had taken a position on the roof of the Legislative Council, stained with graffiti, set off their water cannons against protesters, their faces protected by black gas masks or sheltering under umbrellas. some of them responded by throwing bricks or Molotov cocktails.

Protesters erected a makeshift barricade with shop trolleys and garbage cans.

The police force carried out several arrests. There is no report for the time of serious injuries.

Born out of the rejection of an extradition bill to mainland China, now abandoned by the Hong Kong executive, the movement is demanding more democracy and autonomy for the former British colony.
