France's Victor Perez won on Sunday the first tournament of his career on the European Tour of Golf (EPGA) in St Andrews (Scotland) during the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Perez, 27, on Sunday handed out a 70-card, two under par, to win with a total of -22 on the greens of the prestigious golf course of Saint Andrews (north), offering himself a first success on the EPGA circuit.

"I'm really happy, there are so many elements that need to be aligned to win a golf competition," said the Frenchman at the end of the day.

"There are plenty of great players who are still looking for their first win and me, this happens to me for my first season on the European circuit," he added.

"I'm really lucky, I felt like I was having a good day, I did the job and it was enough to win, it's a great win for me."

The Tarbais, thanks to three birdies and a single bogey Sunday, immediately outpaced the Englishman Matthew Southgate, with whom he shared the lead of the tournament Saturday night.

Perez lives and trains in Dundee, 20km from Saint Andrews, since last year. He participated this weekend in his 29th tournament on the European Tour.

It offers France its first win of the year on the European Tour, since the success of Alexander Lévy at the Trophy Hassan II in Morocco, in April 2018.
