André Melki and Cameron Smallwood are representatives of the student council at Taseruds Gymnasium.

- It is because we want to give everyone who goes vehicles a contribution to the driver's license, says André Melki.

Required driver's license at work

Until 2013, there was a driver's license fee of between SEK 5,000 and SEK 6,000 per vehicle student. When it was removed there were fewer applicants for the education and according to teachers at the school there are several who go out without a driving license - which makes it impossible to get a job.

- Many people cannot afford to get a driver's license. A driver's license is required to become a mechanic, says Cameron Smallwoood.

"May be unfair"

The municipal council, Peter Söderström (S) welcomes the proposal but also sees that there are some problems with, among other things, different treatment of students in different upper secondary programs

- It is an inequality issue that looks the same throughout the country. Many students are unstoppable if they do not have a driving license. I think of care and care, plumbing, construction. You need a driving license in so many other places.

Söderström would like to see coordination throughout the county when it comes to driving license issues.

- This is a question that might be raised in high school collaboration in Värmland.

The proposal will be presented to the municipal council in Arvika on Monday.
