Montpellier has offered Veszprem, runner-up European champion, 23 to 18, Sunday in the Hand Champions League, a win that could be worth at the end of the group stage.

With two wins and one defeat, the Montpellier are third in their group behind Vardar Skopje (Macedonia), outgoing champion against whom they lost the first European match of the season, and the Germans Kiel.

Eight years ago the MHB had not beaten the big Hungarian club, which had already lost its previous match against Kiel.

Excellent defense, and based on the 20 saves of their new Croatian goalkeeper Marin Sego, Patrice Canayer's players have made the race in the lead, but the gap has never exceeded four lengths.

"We had a big game, the whole team responded, we had weak moments in attack, but the important thing was to be solid behind and make stops. We're off to a good start, but we still have a lot of games left, we have to keep working, "Melvyn Richardson told BeIn Sport.

The French international midfielder was the top scorer of his team with 8 goals (out of 12 shots). Swedish pivot Fredric Petterson, winger Hugo Descat and Portuguese back Gilberto Duarte added three goals apiece.

European Champion in 2018, Montpellier had a black season last year. The club did not qualify for the finals.
