Starting next week, the monthly ticket for those who commute to their jobs in Kalmar city center will be canceled. Instead, motorists who want to stand in the centrally located commuter parking can buy a daily ticket of SEK 30 per day - which means that the monthly cost of parking is doubled.

"A really juicy addition"

Among those who commute to central Kalmar, as expected, there are no cheerful mines:

- It's crap, says a car commuter who does not want to put up his name and picture, which SVT meets at the commuter parking Bönhasen in the central city.

- I can understand the environmental aspect of it, but for my own part it is best for me to take the car and then it will be a pretty juicy turn on, says Frida Johansson, who lives on Dunö, about a mile outside Kalmar.

- We are quite numerous with, for example, small children who are controlled by using the car. I am too tight about time in the morning and there will be too much logistics around taking the bus, ”she says.

Responsible politician: A climate change

The purpose of the parking restructuring is, among other things, to strengthen the center trade in the city center by converting more central parking spaces into short-term parking. But it is also about a climate change: While the rates are being increased for motorists, the price of bus tickets in the entire municipality is reduced to SEK 500 a month for the adult.

- We agree that we will do a climate change in Kalmar which means that it will be cheaper to go by bus than to park, says Mattias Adolfsson (S), chairman of the community building committee in Kalmar.

He emphasizes, however, that the parking spaces for commuters will not be reduced: A new commuter parking will open on Ängö, about one kilometer from the city center, which will have the same low tariff on a monthly basis as before.

But what do you say to those who have to pay twice as much to be able to park near their job?

- If you want to pay a little less, one day you can choose another area, another day you can take the bus. But if you want to keep standing on the most attractive surface, it costs a little more, then it is.

Must go by bus

One who might consider starting a bus is the car commuter Aom Krongsuk, who lives in Läckeby.

- Car is convenient for me, I can go home whenever I want. If I miss the bus, I have to wait an hour. But if it does, then you have to, she says.
