Around 50 people gathered on Saturday in the center of Lidingö to manifest against the proposal for a begging ban on Lidingö. The matter will be raised in the municipal council on Monday and Martin Norrby, chairman of the Liberal Youth Association (LUF), is one of the organizers of the manifestation. He opposes the begging ban that may be introduced in his home municipality.

- We think this is a bad way to abuse the municipality's power, says Martin Norrby.

"The question is a water divider"

In the rain, around 50 people gathered for the manifestation. They did not encounter any critical reactions today, but on the face of the manifestation.

- The question is a water divider. When we handed out leaflets, people could get upset and we got into discussions, he says.

With the manifestation, organizers hope to convince members of the municipal council not to vote for a begging ban.

- We believe that we should not be able to legislate against asking for help. It should not be illegal, says Martin Norrby.

Invited to contact the City Council

Organizer Martin Norrby is critical of the proposal and invited participants to contact members of the City Council.

- If the proposal goes through, you are a little ashamed. You want to live on an island that protects Raoul Wallenberg's spirit. It becomes difficult to justify being active in his spirit at the same time, while facing a vulnerable group, he says.
