A week after the death of their military leader, Sylvestre Mudacumura, Rwandan Hutu rebels of the FDLR issued a news release. They contest in part the version of the Congolese army which assures to have led this operation alone and to have known no loss.

Rwandan Hutu rebels acknowledge that two of their cadres were killed during a military operation . The first is Sylvestre Mudacumura, and the second is Mpenzi Pierre Bernard, known as "Soso", the chief of staff of FDLR acting president Victor Byiringiro, who signs the communiqué.

The FDLR also admit that the two men were together for a meeting, without specifying its purpose. According to our information, they had gathered since the previous day to talk about the reorganization of the movement after the death in April of Ignace Murwanashyaka, their political leader. What the Congolese army got wind and which allowed him to surprise the two men in the home of Sylvestre Mudacumura.

But what the Rwandan Hutu rebels dispute is that the bodies remained in the hands of the Congolese army. They claim to have recovered during a counterattack and also inflicted heavy losses to the commando engaged in this operation. They talk about twenty soldiers killed including Colonel Muhire and about fifteen wounded in the ranks of the army. And according to this communique, it is these wounded people who mentioned the presence of elements of the Rwandan army in their ranks.

This version is denied by the FARDC who ensure they have recorded no loss, have received no foreign support, but they admit that given the geography, they have not been able to keep the bodies of their enemies . President Felix Tshisekedi had himself denied any intervention by the Rwandan army in this operation.
