The CEO of the Abu Dhabi Health Data Services Company, which operates the Melfi health information exchange system, Atef Al Buraiki, revealed that the Melfi database platform launched in January 2019 currently includes health information for 2.3 million patients, noting that all medical facilities will be connected. It will be available for 20,000 doctors and nurses in 2,000 medical facilities serving three million people in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Al-Buraiki explained to Emirates Today that the Melfi system provides a central database of public health information in real time, which allows to monitor the syndromes and manage chronic diseases by identifying the risks of spreading diseases and controlling epidemics, enabling the government to develop medical response plans to maintain public health and safety. In the future, Melfi will use artificial intelligence and machine learning to reduce the incidence of diseases and improve health care to enhance the quality of life.

He said: “The Melfi system has witnessed many achievements since its launch in January,” pointing out that the idea of ​​implementing the project started in 2017, as directed by the Department of Health Abu Dhabi, to connect all public and private hospitals operating in the Emirate with a unified electronic system. “There is no linkage between private hospitals in Abu Dhabi, where the only connection between government hospitals was affecting the patient experience because of the lack of medical information and the cost of treatment as a result of repeated examinations.”

He added that Abu Dhabi Health Data Services Company has an integrated support team to support medical facilities in the process of linking with the Melfi system, where since the beginning of the project to provide technical support to hospitals, pointing out that joining the system does not entail any material cost for medical facilities, and the only commitment to Establishments is to update their electronic systems in case they are old, so that they are able to send patients' data to Melfi system, especially that (Melfi) will be an icon within the electronic system of each hospital and by clicking on this icon will be able to enter the doctor file unified Z.

He pointed out that `` Melfi '' serves the medical tourism project in Abu Dhabi indirectly, because of the link of medical tourism to the quality of medical services provided, and will contribute to improve the patient experience and the quality of services, raising the reputation and efficiency of the health system, and benefit the medical tourism sector in the emirate.

Al Buraiki pointed out that there are eight benefits of the Melfi system, which include improving the patient experience and satisfaction level, giving patients and their families peace of mind by obtaining the best and safest care, and strengthening the means of application and coordination of health care, and not excessive or double use of laboratory tests and radiology reports, and enhance the accuracy of medical treatments Enhance communication among healthcare providers, establish a secure database, and employ AI to serve the Emirate's health system.

Atif Al Buraiki, CEO of Abu Dhabi Health Data Services (ADSSC), confirmed that all patient files in the Melfi system will be completely secure, as only the attending physician will have access to the patient's file and will not be able to keep a copy of this data. Abu Dhabi Health Data Services has high standards. Patient data is stored in a category 4 data center, which is the highest security in the world.
